As the Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr period approaches, sales of used cars are expected to skyrocket. Observing this phenomenon, automotive observer Bebin Djuana believes that purchasing a used car is a wise choice as it can help reduce expenses during the Ramadan to Eid Al-Fitr period.
"Buying new cars certainly requires a larger budget. However, during Eid, significant expenses are needed, so buying used cars is a good option because it allows for allocating funds for celebrating Eid," he told Kontan on Tuesday (27/2).
Nevertheless, he projected that both used and new car sales would increase during this period. This is due to the increased demand for vehicles among the public, especially after several months of restraint due to the extended campaign period until the elections.
He believes that during Eid Al-Fitr, it is the time for people to prepare for their hometown trips in style.
Last year, the Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers Association (Gaikindo) recorded that during Ramadan, car sales reached 115,000 units, a significant increase of 15%. On average, car sales during regular periods are around 90,000 units.
The spike in Ramadan car sales in 2023 was 5% higher than the previous year's Ramadan sales.
The surge in vehicle sales for hometown trips mainly occurred in multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) with seven seats, priced in the range of Rp 250 million to Rp 350 million per unit.
This trend aligns with the characteristics of Indonesian society, which often have large families and the need to transport many goods during hometown trips.
